A group of schools in the Billericay area that have worked together on the School Centered Teacher Training project. The successful completion of the course leads to the award of Qualified Teacher Status and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from the Open University.The course is 38 weeks long and students are allocated a Base School. They have a class mentor who acts as a role model and provides structured mentoring to develop classroom skills, knowledge and understanding as the students progress through the course.There are lectures, seminars and workshops which provide an introduction to issues relating to professional matters, such as child development, theories of learning, classroom management and control, lesson planning, being a teacher, and teaching strategies, assessment, recording and reporting, cross curricula themes and dimensions related to the National Curriculum.Most emphasis is on English, Mathematics and Science but all other National Curriculum subjects and Religious Education are considered.
