Was built as a Royal Hunting stand in 1543 for King Henry VIII and later used by Queen Elizabeth I. Look out for the markings carved into the wooden beams to keep the Witches away a fascinating place. Queen Elizabeth was said to have been hunting in Epping Forest when she received news of the defeat of the Spanish Armarda, and returned to the lodge to feast that eveing.
